STONE CUILLERET: a CEO with strong growth

Enthralled by creation or resumption of firms, Pierre Cuilleret did not content himself with the success of The Phone House. Since 2005, he took back the reins of Micromania to make the French leader of the distribution of video games. Portrait of a businessman loving very strong growth and nice adventures.

> Rule n 1: the fibre to undertake

050826_micromania It is because I knew that I wanted to create a firm that I made MAJOR BUSINESS SCHOOLS and that I left to Berkeley. It was one of 3 objectives that I wanted to have accomplished before my 30 years, second being to have sailed the Atlantic and the 3rd to have gone in the top of Kilimanjaro. I finally accomplished 3 just before 30 years since I created my firm in 29 years. 13 years later I tell myself that I had an extraordinary chance .

This chance Pierre Cuilleret considers that it comes first of all from his parents who gave him an energy and an extraordinary health and not need of a lot of sleep in more. When I slept 5 hours I am in great shape. Indeed it gives me a day of more job a week.
His 2nd chance was with creation and success of The Phone House but also in his meeting with his future associate and friend for 12 years Geoffroy Roux de Bezieux. We still did not think the same but we had such shared values at first that we succeeded in agreing each time there were decisions to be taken. That they are big or small, easy or difficult.
Finally his 3rd chance is the resumption of Micromania. I was led to make many proposals, these jobs were finally my front-door in policy, a middle which I therefore discovered late .

> Rule n 2: optimism and job

Pierre Cuilleret points out that the common point of the true businessmen is their optimism and their faith in future: in the most black of the storm, when everybody is ready to lower arms, the businessman continues advancing and ends up seeing light at the end of the tunnel .
And he adds They always say that success it is 5 % of inspiration and 95 % of perspiration. I believe in it very also. Often they realise that those to whom chance came, worked 15 years to be ready to grab it the instant when she comes. Besides the Anglo-Saxon also say "Overnight success usually takes end fifthteen years" ( the success overnight puts on average about fifteen years NDRL).
To undertake is first of all a human adventure and I have the chance to be encircled with gifted and persistent men and with women. They always hung on, they dropped nothing, they have never ceased believing in it.

> Rule n 3: be able to decide

Pierre Cuilleret has habit to say that The Phone House was built by made bad decisions but always timely. It is possible to make a mistake but it is never necessary to equivocate. Too many firms, big or small, suffer from decisions which are taken or not rather quickly, opportunities pass, the rivals use it and market shares get lost: There is a virtue of the speed. As in bike or in motorbike, the more you quickly go and the more you win in stability.

And he insists by reminding that the best the enemy of the good is. A decision will surely be better in 6 months with market research, but in 6 months he will be too much late! A surprising reflexion on behalf of a man coming from the advice but which developed its own intuition in the daily management of its firms.

> Rule n 4: the right time

Having worked in the sector of telecommunications on foreigner, Pierre Cuilleret had determined the explosion of GSM. In 1996, he was ready with The Phone House to take an important part of the French market. With Game Video, I saw in the same way as of an entertainment of enthralled gamers, conditions were united so that this market blows up by opening to the General public by enticing the women and the seniors with the arrival of new consoles such as DS or Wii and new types of games .

There still there were external conditions and opportunities which Pierre Cuilleret could grab by throwing his discount card Pink, by organising days discovered in shops for s niors, and by developing events such as the Micromania Game Show whose edition 2009 united about 60 000 persons mark is known to 85 % French today!

> Rule n 5: the sense of strategy

For Pierre Cuilleret, the d mat rialisation of support is more an opportunity than a threat. There will be a passion always as Game Video and need of qualified advice at which the sellers of Micromania will continue answering with huge advantage to been born in the mail order and to have 3 million active "discount cards" with sometimes a review of sale over 20 years what the constructors and the editors do not have .
But in this new chain of value, the ambition of Pierre Cuilleret does not stop there: our wish is to be linked to the constructors and to the editors and remunerated for what is brought .
Stake is of size and dialogues are of course easier with Sony based in Tokyo or Nintendo based in kyoto or else Microsoft based in Redmond when 6000 shops in the world further to redemption by GameStop in 2008 are weighed. Debates are under way and should not hesitate to succeed.
Still nice perspectives while the 350th shop has just opened in Paris!
