:: History::
Oscar is huge. In the bottom of the class, insulated and definitely out of blow, he dreams about girls and about adventures and harvests only disappointment. The only thing which he can make, it is to write and to read fantastic stories. Exiled in his suburbs of New Jersey, he dreams to become Dominican Tolkien. But the drama, to Oscar, is a feature of family.
His short and marvellous life is hit to the red iron of an ancestral curse: fuk . Left Santo Domingo, this tragedy is passed on of generation in generation, as a bad seed. Family saga leads us so from Belicia, the mother, escaping its Dominican island, to its children, Lola, the runaway, and her brother Oscar, from which steps return inexorably at origins. Shame in the macho and virile reputation of the Dominican men, Oscar carries its late virginity as a burden there. It is not however his shame which will kill him.
Fed on destinies of his ancestors broken by torture, the prison, banishment and impossible love affairs, history of Oscar is spelt, dazzling and disastrous. And joined big History, that of the dictatorship of Trujillo, of the Dominican diaspora in the United States, prematurely born promises of the American dream.
On every page, the feather of Junot D az seeds its nuggets: his language is a patchwork, a music, a master key wall between civilisations, beings and ages, and his hero follows, between humour and poem, ultimate purpose of the men, love.
