Inspired by the true history of the brothers Bielski, extraordinary adventure of which is narrated in the book of Nechama Tec Defiance: The Bielski Partisans , " The insurgents " allows to discover a neglected facet of World War II, who illustrates fighting spirit and mind of resistance which could show the Jews, often shown in these events as subjected and passive.

In 1941, the armies of Hitler pervade Europe. Their implacable progress costs life to millions of Jews. For three men, this tragedy marks the beginning of a war in war. When their small village of Eastern Europe is pervaded, the brothers Bielski take refuge in a deep forest which they know since their childhood. They content themselves with access with surviving but the rumour of their feat spreads and others join them, men and women, young people and less young, ready to risk everything to remain living and free. Little by little, three brothers are going to gather hundreds of hunting and frustrate the plans of their formidable attackers.
